EIT LECTURES - PATUA KI TAHATŪ O TE RANGI

Ruth Smith, Toihoukura Programme Co-ordinator and Lecturer, shares her experiences on the 2016 Ship for World Youth (SWY)programme aboard the Nippon Maru.

A 7-week voyage through Japan, Sri Lanka and India,the purpose of SWY is to coordinate a multi-cultural forum to promote global leadership, through discussions of contemporary issues that affect youth including politics, race relations,sustainability and environment. For those who are considering SWY or a similar experience in the

future, this lecture will be very informative.

Ruth completed her BA Māori (Hons 1st Class)through EIT in 2015. She was invited to be a 2013 participant in Te Panekiretanga o te Reo Māori – Institute of Excellence in the Māori Language, and graduated in 2014. Ruth has been an advocate of Māori language revitalisation for a number of years, using vehicles such as her teaching profession, kapahaka and undergoing cultural exchanges worldwide, including SWY.
