Nubian Marino

Nubian Marino is a developing artist from Gisborne.  Her iwi affiliations are Te Aitanga a Mahaki, Whakatohea, Te Aupouri and Ngā Puhi.

 

With weaving running in her family from her great great grandmother through to her own mother, following in their footsteps with an interest to study raranga at Te Wananga o Aotearoa while still in high school. Spending so much time there, she graduated with a Level 4 Raranga tohu.

 

Further pursuing an interest in art, Nubian chose to study the Nga Toi o Nga Rangi | Maori Visual Arts Degree at Toihoukura.  She is currently in her third year of the degree program.  Having a particular interest in portraiture, she also works with paper cutting that focus on rectilinear based designs such as taaniko to pay respects to her whanau tradition of weaving.
